Tony Parker: "This delay does not jeopardize our project"
ASVEL has broken its silence following a significant budget reduction mandated by the DNCCG and the unexpected departure of Sylvain Francisco to Panathinaikos. Club president and coach Tony Parker has commented on the situation after the DNCCG approved the club's budget, which he acknowledges is "not up to our initial intentions."
Tony Parker's statement:
"For several years, and especially in recent months, we have been working on an ambitious project for LDLC ASVEL. We have had very advanced discussions that led us to hope for a 2026-2027 budget commensurate with our ambitions. Unfortunately, discussions and agreements are taking longer than expected to consolidate, and this will have an immediate impact on our payroll at the start of this season."
"This is a difficult milestone we are experiencing, but I want to reiterate our national and European perspectives. This delay does not jeopardize our project; it is an additional step in its progression."
"Some investors, who had already confirmed their entry with us, have reaffirmed their confidence. This takes time, and we are working to implement their involvement and collaboration with us, thereby maintaining our objectives within the framework of the club's development."
The club is facing a challenging period, with the approved budget falling short of initial plans. This financial adjustment, coupled with the early exit of Sylvain Francisco, has created a difficult situation for ASVEL. Parker emphasizes that despite these setbacks, the club's long-term vision and project remain unaffected. He highlights that investor confidence has been reaffirmed, and efforts are underway to formalize these partnerships to ensure the club's continued development and achievement of its goals.
