EuroBasket U18 Women: The Bleuettes Reach the Quarter-finals
Having remained undefeated in the initial stage, the French U18 women's basketball team, affectionately called the Bleuettes, faced Sweden in the knockout round of the European Championship. It's never easy to transition into elimination games, especially against the host nation, but France managed to control their opponent this Wednesday evening, securing a 71-50 victory.
Vincent Bourdeau's squad gradually pulled away as the game progressed, limiting the Swedish team to just 32% shooting and forcing them into an astonishing 32 turnovers! This was a testament to their strong defensive effort, which was rewarded with 16 steals, four of which were by Thelma Leray (3 points, 6 assists), along with 19 offensive rebounds and 21 assists.
On the offensive end, the entire team shared the scoring load. However, Astrid Courbot was the most consistent performer, scoring 19 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
In the quarter-finals, the French team will compete against the winner of the Slovenia vs. Latvia match on Thursday at 6 PM.
